French drain

A French drain is a type of drainage system that is designed to redirect water away from a specific area, such as a building’s foundation or a landscaped area. It typically consists of a trench filled with gravel or rock, which is then covered with a geotextile fabric and backfilled with soil. The drain is sloped downhill so that water can flow through it by gravity, and it may also be equipped with perforated pipes to facilitate water flow. The French drain is effective at managing groundwater and surface water runoff, preventing water damage to buildings and landscapes, and protecting against soil erosion.
